Municipal Metro Line Transit Network Ventilation & HVAC Insulation Project

Recent
Municipal Metro Line Transit Network Ventilation & HVAC Insulation Project

Project Background

Rapid urban transit environments demand extraordinary reliability from their subterranean infrastructure. This project covers the comprehensive HVAC and ventilation system insulation for a newly constructed municipal metro line, encompassing 14 underground stations and associated tunnels.

The Challenge

Underground metro HVAC systems operate under extreme conditions:

  • High-Velocity Airflow: Ventilation ducts handle massive air volumes, causing severe vibration and acoustic resonance.
  • Confined Space and Humidity: Subterranean air tunnels naturally harbor high humidity, increasing the risk of mold growth and metal duct corrosion.
  • Extreme Fire Safety Standards: Underground transit systems enforce zero-tolerance fire regulations regarding toxic smoke and flame propagation.

Underground Metro Station Ventilation Ducts

Our Solution

Our engineering team implemented a combined system utilizing high-density Elastomeric Rubber Foam Sheets for the air handling systems.

  • High-Density Acoustic Dampening: The dense elastomeric matrix effectively absorbs structural vibration and mechanical noise generated by large commercial air handling units (AHUs).
  • Anti-Microbial & Vapor Proof: The completely non-porous surface of our closed-cell rubber material naturally resists moisture ingress and prevents mold or bacterial colonizations, maintaining clean airflow.
  • Advanced Fire Retardant Properties: The customized rubber material conforms to strict underground safety norms, releasing minimal smoke toxicity and maintaining self-extinguishing capabilities under direct flame exposure.

The Result

  • Optimized Air Distribution Efficiency: Thermal loss across the subterranean duct network was minimized, ensuring precise climate control at station platforms.
  • Acoustic Comfort achieved: Noise levels at the platform and passenger waiting areas dropped by an average of 12 dB, significantly improving commuter experience.
  • Longevity & Low Maintenance: The anti-aging properties of our PVC/NBR blend insulation ensure it will not crack or degrade over decades of underground service, eliminating frequent maintenance costs.
